About Us

My education includes a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Southern Mississippi which has provided me with the practical knowledge and experience in dealing with the complexities and difficulties of disabilities.  I have a Master's of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern University A & M and a Bachelor's of Science degree in Social & Rehabilitation Services from the University of Southern Mississippi.  All of my education combined with my experience has prepared me to help people with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities and those dealing with the many cares of life. Additionally, it has prepared me to evaluate the career potential of individuals and in providing career counseling services.  My experience includes being an adjunct professor in transition services and education at Assumption College.  Previously, I taught at Jackson State University and Alabama State University in the Rehabilitation Counseling program.  My entire career has focused on employment/careers, individuals with disabilities, and helping those overcome life struggles.

My professional association is as a member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, National Career Development Association, and the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification. I am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor which is recognized nationally as someone who is trained to work with various disabling conditions, qualified to evaluate the needs of individuals, and skilled to assist individuals with disabilities to overcome or manage the personal, social, and psychological effects of disabilities. Additionally, I am a  Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialists who provides comprehensive vocational assessment services to consumers with a range of disabilities, education levels, and work experience. The assessment results support job planning and placement. Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialists must demonstrate an understanding of a variety of physical and mental disabilities. They are responsible for administering, scoring, and interpreting an extensive variety of vocational interest, achievement, and psychological tests; conducting community-based assessments of vocational skills and abilities; analyzing medical, psychological, socioeconomic, vocational, and educational information; developing a formal evaluation plan for each client; and creating written reports, which are used make recommendations in relation to employment or other activities. A key purpose of vocational assessment is to enable consumers to make an informed choice. Lastly, I am an Associate License Counselor.

Experience:

• 2005-2006 Child Protective Specialist with MS Department of Human Services Division of Child & Family Services

• 2006-2013 Rehabilitation Counselor III with MS Department of Rehabilitation Services in both independent living & vocational rehabilitation (experience in developmental, orthopedic, neurological, mental, & physical disabilities including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries and developmental disabilities. Clients included high school students, young adults, middle age, and old age)
